As a young boy, I started fly fishing the waters of North Central Pennsylvania many times heading deep off the beaten path for mountain brook trout that had never seen a tied pattern before.  Getting to these brook trout required traversing steep angular terrain with an abundance of rattlesnakes along the way.  I also enjoyed the many beautiful local freestone and limestone streams offering me year-round waters to fly fish.

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, I headed off for a career as a directional drilling engineer in oil and gas exploration working on drilling rigs all over the world. The work took me throughout the lower forty-eight, Alaska and the beautiful waters in the Gulf of Mexico as well as travel abroad to the Middle East, Africa and South America. These travels offered interesting and sometime exotic waters to fish. Many of the indigenous people who helped guide me along the local waters often shared language barriers, but spoke the same language when we held a fly rod in our hands.

Now living in the Hudson Valley, we are all blessed to have such amazing fisheries so close to home. I especially love having the opportunity to teach beginners how to fly fish. In addition to guiding, I offer casting lessons on the pond in my backyard and local trout streams only a few minutes from my home.

At home with my wife, Jan, who works for the largest conservation organization in the world, and our dog Jack, a yellow lab, we enjoy the solitude of the great outdoors as an escape from our busy lives. When time allows, we love getting away to float the South Fork of the Snake River and the Henry’s Fork in Idaho.
