Be prepared for a different experience on the San Juan!

The San Juan River is located in the Four Corners area of New Mexico and has been a top fly fishing destination for more than 40 years. Springing out from below the mighty Navajo Dam, it was one of the first rivers in the United States to implement tackle and bag restrictions. It is now a catch and release fishery that is rivaled by only a few rivers in the world.

The San Juan has 15 miles of trout fishing for Rainbow and Brown trout that number an unbelievable 10,000 fish per mile in some sections. The extremely cold, often clear waters, of the San Juan are home to the smallest, most numerous insect population you can imagine. These pot-bellied fish have outstanding growth rates and the average fish here are trophy fish on many well-known waters. The trout get that way from the simple fact that they don't have to travel far for a meal. These fish are eating machines!

I have been fishing this river since 1985 and can say that it still is an extraordinary fishery. The scenery alone is worth the trip. Towering sandstone cliffs with balancing rock formations, and trees growing right out of the rocks is a sight to behold. Seeing all these big fat trout swimming around your boat, or your feet as you wade, is something you must see to believe. Anglers fishing with Sandstone Anglers often hook up with over 20 fish a day that average between 2-4 pounds. This also the best place in the world to become a member of the 20/20 club, which is catching a 20 inch fish on a size 20 or smaller hook. The San Juan is simply a mystical place.
