Hunting at Spencer Pond Camps

Be ready to get remote, use your compass, and give fair chase. This is big woods, deep woods, remote woods. If you get off the road there are numerous places to spend the day hunting where you will not see another human being...just animals. Several remote ponds are host to great duck hunting, our woods host a variety of food perfect for tracking down grouse and woodcock. Hunting at Spencer Pond has been a tradition since the late 1800's when the William Tell Hunting Club(reputed to be the oldest incorporated hunting club in North America) was active at the outlet. The white-tail deer are here, the big bucks are here, this is where they live. But they won't make easy - if you haven't hunted in Northern Maine before this will be a an adventure the true sportsman won't ever forget. Hunting here is an experience, from catching a glimpse of a lynx in the north woods, to cresting a ridge to overlook thousands upon thousands of acres of uninterrupted forest, to finding a mountain on every corner of the township. What you leave with may be more than the trophy game you came in mind for and that is what keeps our hunters returning year after year. Spring hunting is open for turkey hunters. Our fall season offers opportunity for bear, rabbit, grouse, waterfowl, moose, and deer.

Fishing at Spencer Pond

Fishing season here runs from the beginning of May through September 30th. Spencer Pond has great fishing for kids and the occasional hatch produces nice brook trout opportunities. We encourage catch and release unless you plan to catch and eat. Often our guests catch brook trout off the dock, in the summer months, brown bullhead or "hornpout" fishing is good in the evening. Many guest enjoy catching yellow perch and sunfish which are prolific in these waters. For the true wild brook trout enthusiast the area provides a wide array of remote ponds, beaver flowages, and streams to fish, you could spend a summer fishing a different piece of water every day and not run out of territory to cover. The fabled roach river is 20 minutes away and provides fantastic  catch and release salmon, brook and lake trout opportunities. For those looking for a fantastic day trip - we recommend hiring a drift boat and a guide from the Maine Guide Fly Shop and spending a day up north on the West Branch of the Penobscot River catching salmon and some feisty trout with dramatic views of Katahdin and great food along the way! Bass fishing can be found in Moosehead Lake in both Lily Bay and Spencer Bay. Moosehead Lake is four miles away  and is famous for its brook trout, lake trout, and landlocked salmon fishing.
