Welcome to the Atnarko Lodge

Come and recharge your batteries with us!

In our newly renovated cabin we offer relaxing luxury accommodation right on the north east end of “Smith Bay” on Charlotte Lake. Sheltered from the heavy winds, the shallow water gets warm enough in the summer for a swim.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

We are a small lodge (3 units each with private shower/toilet). You can choose between one kitchen unit to cook for yourself or we will be happy to prepare home cooked meals for you. See Rates for prices.

Right from the lodge you can find a few easy hiking trails. One is towards our great public beach (approx. 40 Min. one way walking distance) with an incredible view toward the main lake and the Coast Mountain range. Another trail follows Engadin Road and brings you up to a view point above the lake. (Approx. 1 hour round trip) A third little walk through the forest takes you to a really nice spot where you can enjoy the sunset (approx. 45 Min. round trip). Many other longer trails start at our lodge. You can find more details under Activities -Hiking

A huge rainbow trout population with sizes up to 70cm (28 inches) and with weights up to 4kg (9 lbs) make Charlotte Lake a special treat for every fisherman and woman. Even if you have never fished before, you will love it, especially after you have eaten them! Whether grilled, doesn't matter if they where grilled, baked or broiled - rainbow trout out of Charlotte Lake are the best! See Activities - Fishing. We also rent out our canoes and kayaks for a little trip in the bay. See more under Rates

Mountain-Bikers appreciate the old logging roads and trails to test their skills and physical condition. More info at Activities -Mountain Biking

But you do not have to be active at our place! When did you last have time to read a book? Have you ever experienced how silence sounds? How many different sounds are out in nature? Where does the sun rise and where does it set? What can you see in different clouds? How long does it take for a satellite to make the journey around the world in the night sky? And how close the stars appear if there is no city close by! There is lots to do even if you do nothing! Come and find answers to these questions yourself!

The Atnarko Lodge is the only Resort in the region where you can treat yourself with a massage. (Swedish, Foot Reflexology and Hot Stone Massages). What feels better after long hours of driving than a massage and some quality time on a beautiful lake with incredible mountains in the background? See more under Massage.

For our adventurous guests we organize guided hikes, trail rides (hourly or multi days), guided ATV and canoe trips in the backcountry of Charlotte Lake. In order to serve you best regarding activities, we need a reservation at least a month ahead. See more under Activities.

WILDLIFE VIEWING

At Atnarko Lodge, we often get to enjoy wildlife that passes through the area. It is common to see moose, coyotes and fox, as well as Eagles and Ospreys hunting for fish in the bay.Sometimes you will see mama bear and her cubs and in early spring it is not uncommon to see Caribou on the lake ice.

TEMPERATURE AND CLOTHING

For the summer months (June - August) we recommend regular clothing plus a sweater and a windproof jacket as well as good shoes (hiking boots) a must for all backcountry trips. There is a possibility of frost at night even in the summer because of the elevation (1200m, 3900ft). Swimming in the lake is a special treat and really refreshing after a real summer day where the temperatures go up to 30° (90°F), so don’t forget to bring your swimsuit. The lake temperature gets up to approximately 18°C (64°F).

You rarely have to wear raincoats in our dry climate. Often we have just a few raindrops between the middle of June and the middle of October. The perfect weather to explore this beautiful outdoor paradise.

In spring and fall you need warmer clothing, a hat and cloves if you plan to be active in our beautiful wilderness. Please don't forget to bring your mosquito repellent if you plan to come during the mosquitoes season (May till mid of July) they are not bad at the lodge as there is always a little breeze! All of our rooms are equipped with Domestic air guard dispensers which will help to keep the mosquitoes outside.
