Fishermen  in the Northeast and elsewhere may consider Lake Champlain as a  prime bass fishing spot in New England. But tucked in the hills  of Northeastern Vermont, Lake Memphremagog and Moore reservoir abound  with both largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Unsullied  by large fishing tournaments, some big fish have never seen the  pressure of some of the more well known bass waters in Vermont.  Prime fishing season begins the second Saturday in June, and Bill  Engelmann has his boat in the water, ready to guide you to the best  fishing spots in the Northeast Kingdom. The best time to go bass  fishing is when the season opens. For several weeks thereafter,  bass are frequently found in the shallows.

Around  August, when the shallow water has been heated by the summer sun,  the big fish head for deeper water. In early autumn, they return  to the shallows for awhile, until the cold weather makes them retreat  to the warmer deep water. The best time to catch large and smallmouth  bass is early morning, early evening and late evening. Smallmouth  prefer submerged rocks around islands and along the shore such as  those found in Moore Reservoir. Largemouth are more often found  in weedy areas along the edges of lake marshes, which are abundant  in Lake Memphremagog. Regardless of the time of year or which fish  you want to catch, Bill Engelmann is anxious to show you the best  places to fish in his quiet corner of the world.
