An old timer once said that our campground is "up north in the good country" and we agree. Nesowadnehunk Lake Wilderness Campground is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Maine. Picture yourself standing on the edge of a crystal clear lake. The sun is going down behind you, the mountains across the lake have an orange glow and a snowy white moon is slowly rising above them. A loon cries out and native brook trout wildly splash the surface of the water. A little bit of heaven on earth? We think so!
Hunting in Northern Maine is a tradition that goes back to the beginning of time. The best place to find Maine's wild game is in the North Maine Woods, and we are located in the heart of some of the best hunting available. We would like to extend an invitation to your hunting party, no matter how small or large, and we will do our best to make your trip as memorable as any you have ever been on.
Hunting season starts with bear hunting season being the first week of September. We cater to small game, bear, moose anddeer hunters. Our camps are located in an area laced with old logging roads that provide easy access to a wide variety of hunting terrain and opportunities. This region has a reputation for trophy size deer and moose. We now offer daily or weekly guided hunting trips (moose and bear hunting by the week only) with a Registered Maine Guide, please call 207-458-1551 for pricing and availability. We provide cabins and campsites for the wilderness traveler interested in a trip that will keep you coming back to Maine year after year.
Whether you are an early riser or an evening fly caster, you will find the fly fishing at Nesowadnehunk some of the best in the country. Along with a beautiful view, you will also have access to the waters of the Baxter State Park area. Fishing season starts at ice out, which is usually mid-May. Nesowadnehunk Lake is truly a wilderness lake located near the beautiful mountain ranges of Baxter State Park. Here is a fly fisherman's paradise. Nesowadnehunk Lake (pronounced Sow-da-hunk by most locals) is the largest fly fishing only lake in Maine. According to the state fisheries biologists, Nesowadnehunk Lake has an excellent "fish caught by hour ratio" compared to other Maine lakes. Plenty of native Brookies are caught daily. Most average 9 to 13 inches, with some going up to 20 inches. Other fly fishing opportunities in the area include Little Nesowadnehunk Lake, which is a designated trophy lake, and Nesowadnehunk Stream, just a short walking distance from the campground. Landlocked Salmon fishing, Smallmouth Bass and general law fishing also can be found nearby. We now offer daily and weekly guided fishing trips with a Registered Maine Guide, please call 207-458-1551 for pricing and availability.
