Harrison's Chesapeake House

Just ten years after the Civil War fell silent, we entertained our first guests. In those wonderfully Victorian days, enormous paddle wheelers crossed the Chesapeake bay to bring ladies and gentlemen seeking relief from the heat and humidity of Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York. This was know as "Summering on Tilghman"...and Captain Levin Harrison's reputation for hospitality, fine sportfishing, and fabulous country cooking quickly spread.

Today, sadly, those magnificent steamboats exist only in faded brown photographs. The elegant parasols and bowler hats are history too. But after more then 110 years, the guests still come. And for the same reasons...the relaxed atmosphere, great sport fishing, and the "no apologies, lots of butter" country cooking.

If you like chrome and glass high-rise hotels, hot tubs, and sushi bars, we're not the place for you. On the other hand, if your taste tilts toward waterfront decks with picnic tables that groan under the weight of huge platters of hot steamed crabs and sweating pitchers of icy beer and brewed tea, we're for you.

Harrison's Chesapeake House is often described as an old fashioned 4th of July Picnic that goes on all season long...which your nose alone will confirm...the pit beef and pork charcoaling on the grill, mountains of hot buttered corn on the cob, fresh cut lawn, and Bay-scented breezes.

If you are dining inside, count on a broad selection of Eastern Shore Seafood specialties including our renowned "Chesapeake Surf and Turf", Maryland fried chicken and back fin crab cakes with homemade coleslaw, hot rolls and four veggies served up in generous family style serving bowls...a truly memorable meal.
