Leslie “Waddie” Stringo grew up on the water. From birth until now, Waddie has been around fishing and the beautiful bays of Port O’Connor. As a child, he played among the fishing boats and piers, learning from the masters of fishing.
Once Waddie was old enough, he spent days exploring the bays, inlets and lakes of Matagorda and San Antonio Bays. There’s few in these parts that know the waters and wildlife better.
Although Waddie supported his family as a master tradesman, he always longed for the day when he could return to the waters as a full-time guide. Today, Captain Stringo lives his dream of helping anglers turn fish stories into reality. His guests enjoy having a guide as knowledgeable, patient and skilled as Waddie at the helm.
Being a true fishing guide is much more, however, than simply knowing how to fish. It takes years of training on boat operation, safety and navigation. It takes a keen understanding of weather, tides, currents, and wildlife. And, above all, it takes an inherent love of people — the pleasure of seeing a kid haul in his first redfish or a seasoned fisherman fill a stringer with keeper trout.
Captain Stringo is also a strong advocate of bay conservation: the ability to enjoy fishing for generations to come depends on responsible use of our natural surroundings. His love of the Port O’Connor bays runs through everything he does, both as a guide and as a local resident.

When Waddie’s not on a trip with a guest, he’s on the water exploring, testing, and scouting for fish. A great guide doesn’t wait until the guest arrives to prepare; he’s always preparing for the next trip to make sure it’s as productive as possible.
