Owner and operator Jamie MacGillivray, of the 'Amy and Laura’ and a 35-year veteran tuna fisherman. Jamie has been catching fish on the waters off of Nova Scotia for as long as he can remember. It all began in St. George’s Bay and the Northumberland Strait, with his father – catching lobster, herring, scallops and tuna.
Shortly there after, Jamie was living and breathing the salty air with nothing on his mind but the catch of the day. Jamie has caught tuna from the waters of Northumberland Strait to the waters off Shelburne, Nova Scotia, in a region affectionately known as ‘Hell Hole’- approximately 90 miles off shore, and all places in between. He has successfully participated for six years at The International Tuna Cup held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His knowledge of the tuna industry is supported by his certifications, which include:
-
Master Under 60 gross tonnage
-
30-Year Member of Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Marine
-
Basic First Aid/CPR/AED Level C
-
M.E.D. A1
-
ROC-MC Radio Operator Certificate
