Dan Ross is originally from Ilwaco, WA. Born at the mouth of the Columbia River, fishing runs in his blood and has spent the better part his life traveling and fishing all over the great state of Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, and as far south as Colombia. Dan has spent the last 15 years in Costa Rica – what Dan calls the “best fishery in the world”.
Dan’s experience in Costa Rica fishing is extensive having fished from the south end of Costa Rica (Golfito) to the North Region (Papagayo), and everywhere in between including the Caribbean side; one of his favorite spots for some of the hottest Tarpon fishing in the Americas. From hook size and brand, to the size of leader and leader material, to tried and trusted techniques for hooking Bill Fish, even the type of boats themselves are factored, including which ones raise fish and which ones do not. Dan’s fleet of Maverick yachts are actually built right here in Jaco, Costa Rica and are some of the finest boats for fishing Costa Rica’s deep waters.
