Well you might say that Captain Marty was born to fish Coming from a long family history of commercial fisherman. The capt spent much of his childhood working on various types of commercial fishing boats. Some of his first sea going experiences were on shrimp boats. The "Little Flower" being one of the first. Spending his first full week at sea at the young age of only 3 Captain Marty was acquiring his sea legs. While most kids that age, were still trying to learn to walk on dry land. Having a large family has its benifits. Some of the other family owned boats that Captain Marty spent time on would include the "Master John" and the "Mary McKay". Along with many other un-named commercial mullet fishing skiffs. At the age of 10 Captain Marty had well over a thousand hrs logged at sea. Since his family were  net builders too, the Capt. was also  trained in the art of cast netting. Which consists of wading or casting from a boat or pier. Captain Marty enjoys cast-netting very much. He has spent thousands of hrs wading and has walked hundreds of shoreline miles.  Captain Marty was 12 when he first stepped foot on a charter-boat. The "Chulamar" out of Pensacola, FL. Which would be his first charter experience. He was hooked!!!!! Captain Marty has worked on charter-boats ever since. He started off as a 2nd deckhand working for a more experienced first mate on a boat named the "SouthWind." Although Captain Marty was already considered to be a knowledgable fisherman, at the age of 12. It would take 2 summers before he would be given a chance to prove his skills on his own back deck. The "Jaded Lady" would be the first full paying first mate position for Captain Marty. He worked as the first mate for many years on boats such as: CAT, Island Lady, Fish Trap, Island Spirit, Hustler, Robin Lynn, Underwriter, Captain Bligh, Katelynn, Entertainer,  Showtime, Fishn Fool, Jamie G, Alibi, Misty, Intruder, Sea Hunter, Southern Cross, Lilli Louise, and Aquastar. Captain Marty says "He has spent more time at sea than he has on land"!
