GOLD MEDAL WATER: The Arkansas River was been designated Gold Medal Water by Colorado Parks and Wildlife in the spring of 2014. This distinction is given only to the most productive trout water in the state. Over twenty years of cleanup efforts and habitat improvement induced a decade of consistent results in the size and quantity of fish per acre. The outcome is that now over a hundred miles of the Arkansas River from Leadville to Parkdale is officially recognized as one of the finest fisheries in the state!
