Tugela River Lodge is a self-catering bush camp, located on a private cattle and game farm on the banks of the Tugela River, near Winterton, KZN, South Africa.
In the shadow of the famous Anglo-Boer Battlefield of Spionkop, the rustic and pet friendly accommodation is the ideal place for a romantic get away for 2, or a family weekend, or a large group get together. We have a total of 24 beds in stand alone thatch cottages, that can be booked either as the Lodge - an 18 bed set up, or the Hideaway - a 6 sleeper.
Ideally situated just 2 and half hours from Durban or 3 and half hours from JHB, the Lodge is perfect to explore the surrounding countryside. The nearby Battle of Spionkop, the Spionkop Game Reserve and the Central Berg will ensure that you have lots to do. On site you have free fishing and usage of tubes and canoes on the river, and there are numerous hiking paths, 4 x 4 tracks, and MTB trails on the game farm, all exclusively for you.
Husband and wife team, Lee and Claire Fuller, are your hosts at Tugela River Lodge. Lee is a photographic safari guide, with 15 years experience throughout Africa. He still guides a handful of trips every year into Africa, Madagascar being his favourite and most visited destination. www.starry-starry-nights.com
Claire is an experienced outdoorswoman, and has been a trail runner, paddler, hiker and mountain biker for many years. She owns a mobile Physio practice specialising in MTB and trail running stage races. www.adventurephysio.co.za
Most of their time however has them pursuing their passion of getting kids outside. They run the busy, and getting busier, Tugela River Trails - a business specialising in Outdoor Education Journeys for kids.
