While South Andros is known throughout the angling the community an incredibly diverse bonefish fishery, what it is not known for (and accurately so) is a grand-slam fishery – One with decent odds of catching other gucci flats species like tarpon or permit.

That being said, over the years a few of our lucky guests have indeed hooked (and even landed) tarpon on our flats while fishing for bonefish. A few of our luckiest guests have even had some decent shots at permit from time to time.. But not one of them has come to hand.

We’ve heard stories of permit eaten by sharks, permit lost at the leader, and even one suspected permit that transformed into an African Pompano at the boat, but not one of which was held for a photo.. Until now.

Andros South team member, Jason Whiting, recently made the most of his time off by tying into this beauty – To our knowledge, the first fly-caught permit to be held at Andros South. Wow.

To those that aren’t aware, bringing a permit to hand is regarded by many in the fly fishing community as the Holy Grail of fly fishing. So, please join us in congratulating Jason on this amazing feat.
