Lenoir, North Carolina was where the idea of opening a full service fly shop came to mind. My wife Anne and I knew the area we were in at that time was not the ideal location to support a fly-fishing business so we were patient with our ideas. In February of 2000 I noticed an advertisement in the Orvis newsletter looking to establish a dealer in Winston-Salem, N.C. I quietly researched the idea of a Winston-Salem dealership and four months later The Green Drake opened its doors to the fly-fishing community.
Although we began carrying strictly Orvis and Filson products we have expanded our lines to include some of the industries leading fly fishing manufacturers. The Green Drake offers clothing and gear from Simms, Sage, fishpond, Wapsi fly tying materials, Umpqua, Rio, Redington, Ross Reels and, of course, Orvis and Filson.
