First settled in the 1880’s, and still a working cattle ranch, the Rhynard Ranch sits high in the rugged Castle Mountains of Southwest-Central Montana, adjacent to the Crazy Mountains of "Jeremiah Johnson" fame, and near the Elkhorn, Big Belt, and Little Belt Mountains. With 3,000 acres of private land and thousands of acres of adjoining National Forest, the Ranch offers a sublime opportunity for hunting, recreation, and relaxation.

Your headquarters will be the completely refurbished and fully modernized, 120-year-old ranch homestead cabin -- located a secluded half-mile from the main ranch. From there, you’ll hike, hunt, camp, watch birds, photograph wildlife, or fish – all on your own. Or, if you’re into pure relaxation, sit on the front porch and read or write a book, sketch or paint, soak in the scenery, or watch the wildlife that passes by and above. Sorry, but we cannot accept pets or children under 12 years of age.

The remnants of the silver-mining ghost town of Castle lie 1.5 miles from the ranch. The ranch and surrounding area nurture the headwaters of the Musselshell and Smith Rivers; stands of Aspen, Douglas Fir, and Lodgepole Pine; and lush meadows, brightened by wildflowers – all crowned by limitless blue sky and starry nights. At the ranch, you know you’re alone and love every second of it.

Rising to 8,500 feet, the Castle Mountains project the impressive rock turrets that prompted their name. They hold a well-hidden glacial lake teeming with cutthroat trout, creeks full of brook trout, and abundant wildlife; including elk, deer, moose, black bears, mountain lions, antelope, grouse, marmots, beaver, badgers, martens, gophers, coyotes, eagles, hawks, owls, occasional transitory wolves, and more. In 2010, a yearling Grizzly, thought to be passing through the Castle Mountains, was sighted, approximately five-to-ten miles from the ranch. This was the only Griz sighting of record in over 80 years.
