A Day at 63: If you wake before the morning breakfast bell, lie still and listen. From the hills echo the distant shouts of wranglers herding horses in streams of morning sunlight. … from Mission Creek drifts the murmur of rushing water. Overhead, the rustle of aspen leaves in the morning breeze.

The rich aroma of bacon and eggs, pancakes and hot coffee, borne on the brightest breath of air in the world, drifts from the main lodge of our Montana guest ranch. But there’s no need to hurry. You take your own sweet time. Once you’re in the log dining room, dig in! Get ready for an invigorating morning ride through some of the West’s most awesome mountain scenery. You’ll be famished by noon if you don’t eat hearty!

The horses are saddled and waiting when you and other guests congregate at the corral, snapping pictures, playing with the dogs, kidding the cowboys, ready to mount up.

Now you’re off through sunlight and sagebrush and wildflowers. You’ve chosen a lazy ride up a timbered canyon to a waterfall. Or a spectacular climb to a mountain pass to round up a few stray dogies. Or a loping ride with the wind in your face, on grassy hills rolling down to the regal Yellowstone River.

After a healthy lunch, how about another stirring ride on a breathtaking trail? A hike in the woods? Fishing in Mission Creek? Swimming in the pond? Photography of flower filled meadows? A refreshing nap in a quiet cabin? You do what you like at our Montana guest ranch.

Later, after an unforgettable dinner, its a round of billiards in the game room, or checkers in the corner, or tall tales in front of a roaring fire. While the teenagers and the kids dance and play off in the recreation hall.

Or perhaps something quieter…a romantic walk in the moonlight… a bit of reading… constellation counting in the crystalline air of the Big Sky. Then… the best night’s sleep you ever had. Tomorrow? Well, one thing’s for sure . . . it will be a western adventure to remember at Montana’s National Historic Site, The 63 Ranch.

June is green, cool, occasionally damp. Snow dazzles on the mountains. Birds and animals are more visible, The galaxy of wildflowers reaches its peak. A photographer’s and birdwatcher’s paradise. July’s warm, sunny days let you ride higher, see farther and follow spring into the high country. Dry fly fishing reaches its height. Area rodeos are in action, On July 2-4 it’s the rip-roaring Livingston Roundup. August grasses glow golden. Clear, dark nights are spectacular with meteor showers and occasional vivid displays of the northern lights. The Park County Fair is a lively look at rural Montana life. Fishing with grasshopper flies is excellent. September is Indian summer. Rich red leaves of mountain maple and alder, ash and boxelder. Gold splashes the hillsides as aspens and cottonwoods turn, A spectacular time for photography. Trout bite strong. Elk bugle in the timber. Deer polish their antlers. Grouse hunting begins.
