Coho (Silver Salmon)

Silvers are my favorite fish to chase. These hard fighting  8 to 17 pound fish often put on incredible acrobatic displays and make blistering fast runs. We target these fish using many different and exciting methods depending on river flow using methods including back trolling, back bouncing, float fishing and casting lures. Prime silver season is August through September. Silver limits are currently 2 fish per person in August and 3 fish per person in September. In addition to Kenai river trips we offer walk in trips to some of the smaller rivers such as the Anchor river. These trips can be very successful and are perfect for the more experienced flyfisher or spin cast angler.

Sockeye (Red Salmon)

In my opinion the Kenai River sockeyes are the best eating salmon that swim. Its rich red meat is fantastic and is the "Meat and Potatoes" of any Alaskan fisherman's diet. Come out with us and we will get away from the stress and danger of the "combat fishing" zones as we run the lower and middle river to find prime spots where you can maximize your chances of bringing home a limit. Here you won't have to worry about a stranger next to you crossing your line, hooking you, or any of the other frustrating situations that come with the crowds. Sockeye limits start out at 3 fish per person, then mid July usually jump to 6 fish per person. We typically target these hard fighting 8-12 lb tackle breaking fish from shore, using the boat to access places away from the crowds for less pressured fishing and a much more relaxed and enjoyable fishing experience. Sockeye season starts in June and heats up through July and lasts into mid August.

King Salmon

We start our salmon season fishing in the months of May and June for King salmon on the Kasilof river. This river is approximately 13 miles south of Soldotna and is a quiet, drift boat only fishery. We fish out of my stable 20 foot oar powered willie drift boat, typically back trolling plugs and other baits through the holes where these fish lay.  We will fish the Kasilof until early July. King salmon in the Kasilof river average 12-35 pounds, but larger fish are possible.

Starting in July we switch to the Kenai river, where we can target the largest King salmon. Fishing out of my comfortable 20 foot willie powerboat allows us to fish the most productive holes as we follow the fish up river on the incoming tides. The world record King salmon was caught in the Kenai river and weighed in at 97lbs 4oz, however they average 25-50 pounds. We seem to catch several larger fish every year.

During May and June guided fishing trips for King salmon on the Anchor river or Deep creek are available as well. These smaller walk in streams are a blast to fish and can be very productive for anglers who are proficient at casting spinning rods or fly rods. Often times we are sight fishing for these great eating 12-35 pound king salmon. The fight they put upon the lighter tackle we use in these fisheries is fantastic.

Trout

The Kenai River is home to some of Alaska's biggest trout, and is certainly the best drive to trout fishery in the state. There are many productive ways to fish these trophy trout depending on the time of year, we usually target trout using fly or spinning rods, depending on the clients choice and skill levels. The trout on the Kenai River average 14 to 25 inches with larger fish very common, there are trout up to twenty pounds caught every year.  When the fishing is good 70-100 fish days are very possible.

Pink Salmon

Available on even numbered years, pink salmon provide plenty of action. At times pink salmon are so abundant you can catch one on nearly every cast. These are a fine eating fish when they are bright and fresh from the ocean. Many people smoke or can these 3-8 pound fish. With a liberal 6 fish limit its easy to fill a fish box when fresh pinks enter the river.
