Turkey Hunt – Our annual spring turkey hunt is a 4 night, 3 day event, usually a Thursday – Sunday, in May. During this time the Veterans involved will experience the beautiful back country of Central Ohio from ground blinds on one of our several hundred acre tracks of land that is donated for our use by one of our many friends, neighbors, and supporters of AFL. We will provide each hunter with a hunting license, as well as a turkey tag as needed. This is a fully guided hunt, and ours are some of the best! We also typically do several other things during our turkey hunt days such as fishing, morel mushroom hunting, and seeing the local sights in our area. Of course we are always up for just kicking back and relaxing in the woods, or chatting up the fellow service members in the shelter house. There has even been, on occasion, several people kicked back napping in the afternoon sun, enjoying some much deserved rest and relaxation. Of course Lisa Pierpont and her team of amazing foodies will make sure that your belly is always full of yummy food. While we cannot guarantee that you will harvest a turkey during your stay, we always promise good food, good friendships, and good fellowship.

Deer Hunt – Our annual fall deer hunt is a 6 night 5 day free range, fully guided, deer hunt in late October. The Veterans that are chosen to participate are immersed in the beautiful sights, sounds, and colors of early fall in Central Ohio. The deer are usually in the pre-rut stage, and they are beginning to really move into our secluded blind locations. This is strictly an archery hunt. Due to the generosity of the many amazing land owners that have given us permission to harvest deer on their property we have access to approximately 2,500 acres of prime deer hunting land, and we are growing. We will provide each hunter with an appropriate hunting license, as well as up to two deer tags.At the landowners request we only harvest mature deer. We want to be sure the deer population in these areas stays strong. As always we do our best to cater to our Veterans, we arrange to have all deer that are harvested processed, standard cut, and packaged safely for their return home. While not in the woods Veterans have the opportunity to connect with our staff, volunteers, and other prior service members and of course Lisa and her many volunteers will keep your stomach full with delicious food! The camaraderie among the Veterans and staff grows very strong in a short amount of time. Many of our past guests have become life long friends of AFL, not only our organization but on a personal level as well. While we cannot guarantee that you will harvest a deer during your stay, we always promise good food, good friendships, and good fellowship.

Fishing Day – This is a 1 day fishing event that takes place in Mid-May in central Ohio. The Tuesday Night Bass Club from Apple Valley Lake, in Apple Valley, Ohio help us sponsor this event. The Club provides America’s Freedom Lodge and our selected Veterans unlimited access to their private lake with their boats, pontoons, and fishing gear. Typically we fish for bass and crappie. This event begins in the early morning hours, and finishes with a weigh-in and grilled lunch on the beach of the lake. A fishing license and any tackle needed are furnished, by AFL. We also have snacks and drinks available to take out onto the boats in the morning.

Pheasant Hunt – New for 2017! October 7, 2017, we are partnering with Elkhorn Lake Hunt Club to provide veterans a chance to harvest ring – neck pheasants in a controlled environment at their hunting preserve in Northern Ohio. This European Hunt is a challenging pass-shooting hunt simulating Olde Worlde driven shoots. Start out with sporting clays on their fully automated tournament–grade courses, followed by lunch in the beautiful Great Room dining hall. After lunch, head for the main event – 100 hard-flying pheasants hunted continental style. Finish up with a field hunt over great bird dogs, looking for the ones that got away. This is sure to be a fun filled day! All needed equipment, including ammunition and gun, if needed, will be provided.
