Alaska Glacier Adventures specializes in conducting fully guided, boat-based, Trophy Sitka Blacktail Deer Hunts out of Klawock in Southeast Alaska. Klawock is only 6 miles from Craig, AK and they are both located on the west coast of Prince of Wales Island, which is the southern-most island in Alaska. Klawock is an easy 2.5 hour flight from Seattle, Washington on Alaska Airlines via Ketchikan.

The hunting opportunities for giant Sitka Blacktail Deer and Black Bear on Prince of Wales are THE BEST in Alaska for a variety of reasons. The lack of hunting pressure, the remoteness of the area, the prime habitat, the excellent genetics, the lack of winter kills and our expertise of putting you on a trophy deer all combine to make this the best Blacktail Deer hunting in the world.

There are more record book deer entries from here than the rest of North America. They regularly produce monster bucks that weigh over 150 pounds, score between 85” and 120” and are excellent eating. We consistently guide hunters to deer that are BIG and OLD while doing it with expertise and great attitudes.

Prince of Wales Island is 135 miles long, 45 miles wide, is bigger than Delaware and is the 3rd largest island in the USA behind Hawaii and Kodiak. Its large size combined with a temperate climate and abundant food make this the optimal deer habitat. This coastal island is covered with a dense spruce, hemlock and cedar forest and has miles of rocky shoreline, numerous bays, tidal flats and rivers. Two other big game animals reside on the island; Coastal Black Bear and Wolves. Prince of Wales is just 668 miles north of Seattle and its mild climate and winters mean the winter kill associated with Kodiak and areas further north does not happen.

Hunting for deer on Prince of Wales Island is better than Kodiak Island since you don’t have the severe winter kills, you don’t have to be watchful of the hungry Brown Bears that might attack since it does not have brown/grizzly bears, you don’t have to fly all the way to Anchorage and then to Kodiak and you don’t have to take an expensive charter flight to the prime hunting areas. The majority of the black bears on Prince of Wales are in their dens by October 25 and they are not aggressive like the brown/grizzly bears.
