The Pee Dee crosses both N.C. and S. C. before reaching  the Atlantic and emptying into Win Ya Bay near Charleston, S.C. It heads up in  the NC mountains, where it is  called the Yadkin river.  Going downstream the  Yadkin river, the first man made  lake  is HighRock, then Tuckertown, Badin,  Narrows, Tillery and last Blewett Falls. At the upper end of lake Tillery  the Uharrie river runs into the Yakin. From this point on downstream the Yakin is known as the Great Pee Dee river. Below lake Tillery the Pee Dee runs a 20 mile stretch of river before reaching Blewett Falls Lake. Blewetts is the last lake on the Yadkin / Pee Dee chain.  Below Blewett Falls  the Pee Dee runs 125+/-  miles unobstructed before meeting the ocean.

I primarly fish a 60 mile stretch of the Pee Dee starting from the lower Dam on Lake Tillery, downstream to  Cheraw, S.C.  About middle ways of my fishing area is  Blewett Falls lake.  Blewett Falls is a small lake, only 2,200 acres. It is fairly shallow, has dingy  water, and is full of stumps. It is stocked with largemouth bass, bream , crappie, stripers and catfish but is recognized mostly for its abundance of catfish.

The tail race waters below Blewett Falls dam are treacherous. Rocky shoals, shallow water and swift water currents make it very difficult to navigate. The water level  changes constantly due to the Hydro Electric Plant releasing water. Blewetts is the last dam on the Pee Dee so saltwater fish such as striped bass, american and hickory shad and mullet, swim up the Pee Dee in the spring to spawn. I have even caught a few small flounder in my cast net.
