Fly fish the difficult-to-access Jackson River with an experienced Angler's Lane guide, using our private lodge or lodging of your own choice.  With five properties spread along the Jackson River, we can guide you on this river without difficulty so you can enjoy Virginia's most scenic floatable river for trout.  Also, if you stay at The Homestead or The Greenbrier resorts and want to fish the area, contact us or call 434-385-0200 and we can guide you on the Jackson.  We also offer day passes to our Jackson River properties, pending availability (when not reserved by our guided and overnight clients).



 

Formed by the confluence of the Jackson and the Cowpasture, the James is perhaps the quintessential river where fly fishing and Virginia history intersect. Fly fishermen who know the James (a smallmouth bass and muskie favorite) eventually seek its beautiful headwaters, the Jackson River, in pursuit of wild rainbow and brown trout.  The last time the river was truly stocked was the mid-1990's, so virtually all of these trout are wild (naturally reproducing)!  (Exception: some of Homestead's fish which occasionally wash down with heavy rains from the Cascades and Cedar Creek.)    While the average size ranges from 10" - 14"  we catch larger fish on most trips including occasional trout over 20".

If you are looking for a place to stay, our cabin, Stonesthrow on Jackson  offers a convenient base from which to fly fish the Jackson River in Virginia. We call it Stonesthrow because from the porch a child can hit the river with a stone.  Our guides can take you float fishing or wading on our property at Stonesthrow and many other private access points as well as several open access points on the Jackson. We have been fishing this river since the early 1990's, and frequently for the last 10 years, so we know it well.

Stonesthrow offers 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and a comfortable living room connected to a convenient kitchen & dining room with a close-up view of the Jackson (see photos).  The setup works like a house at the beach--your towels and linens are taken care of and you have access to cooking facilities (gas stove, oven and grill) with restaurants and grocery stores 10 minutes away in Covington. We are located less than 15 minutes from Interstate-64 exit #18, within 25 minutes of Hot Springs, Virginia and 30 minutes from Warm Springs, West Virginia.  Perfect for resort golfers looking to combine golfing with fly fishing.
