Rick started fishing at the age of five, trailing behind his two older brothers, fishing all over the state of New Jersey. As the years passed, he realized his passion and fished for everything from sunfish to tarpon, from Eastern Canada to the Florida Keys. About thirty years ago, Rick discovered the challenge of fly fishing for trout and salmon, and became an accomplished fly-tyer and caster. During that time, he traveled and fished many of the streams and rivers from Eastern Canada to his home state of New Jersey, and became familiar with the specific habits of the salmonoid species, within each of those streams, by spending countless hours of trial and error on stream and at the tying desk, perfecting the techniques and fly patterns he uses today. After years of inviting friends and family to share the aspects of fly fishing with him, Rick realized he liked to teach, almost, as much as he liked to fish. And so, after receiving his guide's license in New York and Pennsylvania in 1993, he founded the company, River City Outfitters.
