McLean House Inn
The McLean House Inn This home was originally constructed in 1875 for Senator John McLean and his family by Billy Dingwell. The home took approximately two years to complete; the family moved in to their new residence in the town on Washington Street. The home was a prominent structure in this sea-side village.
John McLean was a partner in the Matthew and McLean Company. As the town increased in size, the company, too, expanded in size and capacity. The company was involved in a general store, fishing fleets, fish merchants and commerce.
In 1882, John McLean was elected to the Provincial Legislature by acclamation to represent Kings County. He continued in this position until 1916. Then, he was named to the Senate of Canada.
Senator John McLean became the first Souris resident to be named to the Senate of Canada and remained in this position until 1935.
The inn has been bought and sold over the years to various business people and families.
In 2000, the home was purchased by Barb MacPhee and her family began restoring this wonderful home to some of its glory. The McLean House Inn opened its doors in August 2001. Many guests have enjoyed this wonderful historic property and we hope you will, too!
