The Timbers at Chama dons its camouflage gear from mid-September to December with a brief return in the spring, welcoming hunters to one of the best elk habitats in the Rocky Mountains — New Mexico’s famous Unit 4. Whether you prefer the Rocky Mountain bull elk, trophy mule Deer or a the elusive Merriam turkey, the Timbers at Chama provides some of the finest hunting in New Mexico.

Guides take a select group of hunters to harvest the largest bull elk and only a few of the prized Chama Valley Deer each year.  We practice low-impact to help preserve this outstanding elk, deer and turkey hunting for generations to come.  And, we support those organizations working on behalf of all hunters.  Be sure to go over your gear carefully before travelling for your hunt.

Harvested game is retrieved and delivered to a local processor in Chama, New Mexico.

The Chama Valley offers so many angling opportunities that it is considered New Mexico’s fishing paradise.  The Timbers at Chama is centrally located amidst some of the best trout fishing waters in New Mexico and Colorado and the ranch staff can arrange half-day or full-day charters.

Anglers can fish for brown, brook or rainbow trout in private mountain lakes or streams on the Timbers property or venture out to the nearby Brazos, Chavez and Chama rivers. In fact, the New Mexico state record for Brown trout was caught just 20 minutes from the Timbers at Chama.

Heron and El Vado lakes hold Kokanee salmon and lake trout. A short drive away, in southern Colorado, pristine alpine lakes and the legendary Conejos River are just a short drive away.
