The G.D. "Jerry" Varn family owns & operates Broxton Bridge Plantation in Ehrhardt, South Carolina. Broxton Bridge Plantation was built in the late 1700s and has been in the Varn family for nine generations.
Mr. Varn towered almost seven feet tall and was easy to spot in a crowd. A charismatic guy with a heart as overwhelming as his stature, Jerry could quote from the Bible or constitution with equal eloquence. He was a true southern gentleman and a shrewd businessman who passed away in 2007.
A visit to Broxton Bridge Plantation is like stepping back in time to an era when life was simpler. That is especially true on the three days that Broxton Bridge stages their annual civil war reenactment.
Broxton Bridge Plantation offers a wide variety of hunting opportunities on over 7,000 acres of land---deer hunting, wild hog hunting, duck hunting over decoys, in addition to pheasants and bobwhite quail.
A favorite is the European style Tower Shoot. After a sporting clays warm up, pheasants take flight from a 65 foot high tower. You can really blow the dust out of the barrel on this one! Then finally we take dogs and walk up the remaining pheasants. And if that isn't enough, everyone goes over to the Banquet Hall for a big country lunch complete with desserts, while your birds are being prepared and packaged. It takes a minimum of 8 shooters to put on a hunt, with a maximum of 40.
The full range of services at Broxton Bridge also includes sporting clays, a pistol & rifle range, wingshooting clinics, continental tower shoots, bass fishing, historic tours of on-sitecivil war battlegrounds, a Level 1 NSCA Certified Shotgun Instructor. We also offer the following accommodations for business meetings, seminars, conferences or entertainment: a Banquet Hall, a Meeting Room and a Pavillion. There is a campground for trail rideenthusiasts, which includes 58 miles of horse trails, RV hookups, corrals for your horse and a new bath house and Snack Shack.
For aviation enthusiasts, there is a 2600' air strip within walking distance of the lodge.
