Barra is a small community of diverse interests and backgrounds, but are brought together on the beaches around the bay as a tight knit family of people, making it the perfect holiday destination where you can kick off your shoes and become a part of the sand, the sea and the people that make Barra magic!

The village is close to Inhambane, the local markets, an airport and everything you may need during your stay.

Barra offers a wide variety of activities for the adventurous at heart, but also provides leisure activities ensuring that you return home feeling both rested and invigorated.

ACTION PACKED

Fishing

Barra and the surrounding seas have a great many options when it comes to getting the lines wet; deep sea, bill, game, fly fishing or rock and surf – something for everyone!

Fishing charters can be arranged around Barra and Tofu.

Remember to pack your tackle!

Spear Fishing

For those who like their hunting done up close and personal, we have great hotspots with safe entrance and exit points where the visibility is good and the prey abound! You will be hunting for hours!

Dhow Trips

These trips can add to your Mozambique experience; travel to Pansy Island and Maxixe and with a good chance of spotting dolphins en-route it is a trip well worth taking.

Diving

The Barra area is noted for the whale sharks and manta ray species that can be found in its ocean twelve months of the year and beside these magnificent creatures the waters teem with life.

Apart from diving for the pleasure and sport Tofu has a research centre, where research is aimed at studying specifically the whale sharks and manta rays that are found in these waters. If you are interested in learning more or want to offer support, contact us for details.

Dr. Andrea Marshall, the senior resident marine scientist, has discovered a new species of manta ray along the coast of Tofu in 2009.

This species has never before been recorded anywhere else in the world and seem to be endemic to these shores.

Join Dr. Marshall and her team for a dive with the manta rays or whale sharks and make this an experience of a lifetime!

Some say that this area is the best diving spot in the world… come and find out for yourself.

Snorkeling

Snorkeling among the reefs close to the beach is a blast; Barra beach holds a lot of excitement beneath the surf for the snorkeling enthusiast!
