With over 32 years of experience in the lodging business, Brad and Brenda Waitman look forward to hosting your Alaska fishing vacation. Our lodge sits on a prime location where the Kvichak River meets Lake Iliamna.
Brad Waitman serves as your pilot-guide with 32 years of experience flying and guiding in Alaskaʼs Bristol Bay waters. Brad is a registered Big Game & Sport Fishing Guide and is a licensed Commercial & Instrument rated Pilot with over 6,500 hours. He also holds a USCG license and is a certified First Aid & CPR First Responder. Brad has a reputation for finding amazing fishing and his passion for flying and fishing is apparent. When on a fly out with Brad in his Cessna 206 float plane, he is your pilot guide for the day – the airplane will not leave you. This is a great feature of our operation because you have the option to move to a different river or return to the lodge at any time, especially if inclement weather is moving in.
Our location is optimum for a fishing lodge in the Bristol Bay region. We are just steps away from the Kvichak River which has the largest run of Sockeye Salmon in the world.Every year in late June through mid July a run of 2 to 4 million Sockeye Salmon move right past our lodge. Sockeye are an important food resource for the region and Brown Bear frequent the area. The Kvichak River also produces excellent Rainbow Trout fishing. Thanks to the protein rich Sockeye eggs upon which they feed, it is not uncommon to hook a 30-inch Rainbow Trout.
Being based on the Kvichak River means that we can go fishing on a blue ribbon river no matter what the weather conditions bring. If the weather is not fit for flying, we fish our home river and never miss out on any fishing time. In addition to the huge runs of Sockeye Salmon and incredible Rainbow Trout, the Kvichak also gets a good run of Silver Salmon mid August. Letʼs not forget the resident population of Arctic Grayling that are great fun to sight fish with dry flies all summer long.
Interested in fishing for King Salmon? A short 20 minute plane ride from our lodge takes you to the Nushagak River. From mid June through the end of July the Nushagak River gets the largest run of King Salmon in the world. There are many fishing opportunities just a short flight away from Igiugig. Being located on the Kvichak River and having Brad and his Cessna 206 float plane to access other rivers in the area makes for the perfect combination to offer an incredible, high adventure sport fishing vacation.
While youʼre all out fishing, Bradʼs wife, Brenda, manages the lodging details to ensure your stay is comfortable. Sheʼs a third generation Alaskan familiar with the logistics and demands of running a remote lodge and providing welcoming Alaskan hospitality. Our friendly crew is dedicated to meeting your needs and assuring you successful fishing and a pleasant stay.
