SportFishAfrica – formerly known to all as CHARLES NORMAN FISHING & SAFARIS, is South Africa’s only tour operator specializing in sport fishing tours to a wide variety of fresh and salt water destinations, both throughout Africa and to its Indian Ocean or Atlantic Ocean island resorts.

The Johannesburg-based company has been in existence for 15 years, during which time it has earned a solid reputation within the tourism industry for reliability and personal service. Though initially catering almost exclusively for South Africans outbound, in recent years a growing awareness of Africa’s sport fishing potential has seen a steady increase in international clientele, in particular from Europe.

Countries currently marketed by SportFishAfrica include the Indian Ocean islands of Seychelles, Madagascar, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Gabon and Ghana, Egypt and the Atlantic Ocean islands of Sao Tome & Principe, namely Bom Bom.

The company’s greatest single benefit to clients is its experience of Africa’s fishing waters and seasons. Almost every area marketed has been visited by the SportFishAfrica team, and details such as if a group includes non-fishing partners, or whether experiences other than purely fishing are required, also play a major part in recommendations. We have the advantage of good relationships that have been formed with our suppliers over the years. We offer a specialized service, though we do not exclusively package sport fishing. We are also able to assist with competitive packages for honeymooners; family holidays; diving; fishing; incentives and conferencing; after all, we have secured the best rates with almost all our suppliers and are therefore able to assist Travel Agents and some Tour Operators accordingly.

SportFishAfrica also produced a weekly angling show for Super Sport throughout 2005. The show featured most of the destinations currently marketed by SportFishAfrica, and DVD’s which were produced in-house are still available for our clients enjoyment. Chris Niehaus, a retired investment banker, knowledgeable and well traveled fisherman, bought Charles Norman Safaris from the Norman family after Charles’ sudden death in early January 2004. Kerry-ann Baptista, who worked with Charles and in the travel industry for a number of years, stayed on to manage the travel business under the new company name; SportFishAfrica– a partnership with plans to take the company to new levels of excellence – in memory of our predecessor- Charles Norman.
