New Mexico encompasses over 120,000 square miles of public and private land that offers a diversity of hunting possibilities for outdoor enthusiasts. Here in the Land of Enchantment, our landscapes include deserts, grasslands, forests and mountainous terrain that offer a truly remarkable chance to hunt a variety of species during most seasons of the year.
Elevations range from under 3,000 feet in the southeast corner of the state to Wheeler Peak at over 13,000 feet. Although our climate is typically mild and sunny, hunters should be prepared for weather anomalies which may be just around the corner at any time. A New Mexico hunt is likely to present the hunter with extremes of both heat and cold, often on the same day. Amid harsh terrain and vast expanses, hunters are advised to come prepared and execute their hunt carefully, to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey.
