Elk Ridge is one of the best units in Utah to hunt 180″+ mule deer, whether it be Archery, Muzzle Loader, or Rifle. The archery and muzzle loader hunts are one of our physically least demanding hunts as the preferred method is to cover country in side by sides and atv’s until we find your deer then put a stalk on it, or hunt from tree stands and ground blinds. The rifle is physically and emotionally far more demanding, as the deer have moved off the tops and require hours behind the glass searching for trophy deer. There are a limited number of tags available for these hunts so hunting pressure is low, for this reason it typically takes several preference points to draw. If resources allow Conservation tags are also available, and are tax deductible. We feel this hunt will be one of the most rewarding archery mule deer hunts a person will ever go on, we regularly pass on ten or more 150-180″ mule deer a day. Or come hunt the Blues side on the general unit where you can draw nearly every year.

Come hunt the famous San Juan for 370+ bulls. The Rut is just starting to heat up towards the end of the archery hunt, then continues through the rifle and muzzle loader hunts. This hunt is very physically demanding and takes place between 6500 and 10,000 feet. A typical day elk hunting consists of getting up before daylight and driving/hiking to our chosen spot, then pursuing bugles on foot, then sorting through bulls until we find that special one. You will typically see anywhere from 10-30 bulls a day. Very few people get to experience an elk hunt like this in their lifetime, and we hope that you will let us be a part of your experience. This is a limited entry hunt and there are a limited number of tags available in the draw. If resources are available a tag can also be acquired by purchasing a ,tax deductible, conservation permit through various conservation organizations.

Southeast Utah has 2 of the best bear units in the state, in the San Juan, and Lasal units, the area produces an unusually high concentration of color phase bears ranging from blonde, to brown, to cinnamon. These are trophy bear units with most of the bears we harvest going between 19-21″. Come follow a well trained pack of hounds in some of the most beautiful and rugged country in Utah. Bear hunting with hounds is one of the most physically demanding and rewarding hunts we offer. We are often up at daylight driving around until the dogs “rig” or “strike” a bear track from the truck, the hounds are then released on the track and track their quarry until they either force it up a tree or bay it up on the ground. Sneaking in under twenty yards on a 350lb+ boar bayed up by a pack of hounds and harvesting it is as heart pounding as hunting dangerous game in Africa. These hunts take place in both the spring and fall and are by limited entry drawing. If resources allow Conservation permits are available by auction and are tax deductible.

The Mountain Lion is one of the most elusive animals in the wild, and live in the most rugged country in the West. They are hunted exclusively with hounds, and are very nomadic with the mature Toms having a home range in excess of 100 sq miles. A typical day lion hunting (in the snow) starts well before daylight driving roads in trucks, atv’s and snowmobiles looking for tracks. Once a track is found the dogs are released on it and then we try to keep up with the dogs, by any means necessary until they tree or bay the lion up. If no snow is present we hike canyons with the dogs until they strike a track, then we hike with the dogs and help them if necessary. this requires hiking several miles a day and is physically very demanding. Although snow does increase our odds of finding and catching a lion our hounds do not require snow to hunt lion. If the whole hound experience, and not just the kill is what you are looking for I would actually recommend a dry ground lion hunt. This hunt is a harvest objective unit and tags are available over the counter until the quota fills up. Although it is legal to kill females this is a trophy Tom hunt.

BTO hunts Desert bighorn sheep primarily in the San Juan South and San Juan Lockhart units.  If you do draw this tag it will likely be a once in a lifetime hunt. This hunt takes place in October and November in the most rugged and remote country in the west, and is not for the faint of heart. It is a physically and emotionally demanding hunt that requires extreme preparation. Most of this hunt will be spent hiking long distances to vantages and spending the majority of the daylight hours behind optics, good gear and optics are critical and as many sets of eyes looking, as resources will allow, will dramatically increase your odds. The San Juan unit holds average trophy potential, and will likely require a long shot to harvest your animal. We typically will be staying in camp trailers or tents for the hunt, travel will be by atv’s, trucks and boats to get to hunting areas then hike from there. Desert Bighorn is a once in a lifetime dream hunt and we would love for you to let us at BTO be a part of that experience.
